ADDICTION RECOVERY STEPS THROUGH

MEDITATION

Meditation – along with prayer – is the cornerstone of the 11th Step and an essential part of a whole, healthy and harmonious life. From improving our physical and mental well being, to fighting addiction and stress, meditation can change your life, resulting in increased concentration, decreased anxiety, and a general feeling of happiness. At A Healthy Village, we practice meditation daily as a community – both on site and at local meditation centers– and we encourage each man to develop their own individual program of meditation that can carry them through the rest of their life.

FELLOWSHIPS

Refuge Recovery is a Buddhist inspired approach to recovery. We instill the 4 Noble truths and the 8 fold path. It is not G-d driven but asks to just give it a try. Some people just don't resonate with the 12 steps and there is now evidence based theory that mindfulness and meditations helps with many common diagnoses such as anxiety, depression and addiction.   The effectiveness of Refuge Recovery and 12 step fellowships – one addict/alcoholic helping another – is without parallel, and continues to be the primary resource for people who are serious about ending their addictive behaviors and manageability, and restoring their lives to sanity and wholeness. A Healthy Village is convenient to the hundreds of 12-step meetings offered all day, every day, throughout the greater Los Angeles area. You'll find 12 step fellowships being held at churches, schools, Alano Clubs, restaurants, theaters, parks and beaches. Alcoholics, Narcotics, Marijuana Crystal Meth, Cocaine and Nicotine Anonymous all have local chapters, as do Sex & Love Addicts, Co-Dependents, Debtors, Gamblers, and Alanon groups. There's something for everyone and every need – any time and everywhere!

YOGA

Combining stretching, controlled breathing and relaxation, yoga brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve peacefulness of body and mind, helping you relax and manage stress and anxiety. It can also enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being. A regular yoga practice can help improve balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength. Yoga can also help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure, as well as help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, and insomnia. A Healthy Village offers its community members daily opportunities to participate in yoga practice and instruction both on-site and at several yoga studios nearby, including “11th Step Yoga” sessions that are specifically geared towards people in recovery and 12 step fellowships.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY

At A Healthy Village, we believe that “a spiritual awakening” is a fundamental key to personal recovery and achieving a life of abundance and happiness. We respect the personal nature of each persons understanding of a Higher Power in their life, and we recognize all churches, temples, synagogues, mosques and ashrams as spiritual paths. Members of A Healthy Village community are invited and encouraged to participate in many of the various services, classes and activities offered at the North Hollywood Spiritual Living Center.
